Germans to Denmark, then Russia

On May 18, 2013 a Memorial Stone, honoring the colonists in Denmark who went on to Russia, was dedicated at Jorl, Schleswig, Germany.  The inscription at the top of the stone reads "They came as colonists of King Frederick V and followed the call of Empress Catherine II".  The names of colonists on the Memorial Stone were submitted and paid for by donors from Europe, Siberia and the USA.  The Memorial Stone was the project of the Arbeitskreis Plaggenhacke, a Schleswig group dedicated to colonist history and genealogy.  Director Christian Winkel spearheaded the project.
